Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre Presents Science-to-Farm Initiatives for Kalyana Karnataka

Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre (BBC) recently presented an overview of its ongoing science-to-farm initiatives for the Kalyana Karnataka region to Hon’ble Minister for Home, IT, BT & E-Governance, Shri Priyank Kharge.

The initiatives demonstrate how biotechnology and innovation can be translated into practical solutions that create economic value for farmers, FPOs, and local agricultural communities.

🌾 Value Addition to Pulses

BBC is working on developing value-added products from locally important pulses such as Toor Dal, Black Gram, Green Gram, and Bengal Gram. One of the key innovations includes a plant-based protein energy bar, aimed at converting the region’s strong pulse production into higher-value, nutrition-focused products.

🍌 Tissue Culture of Kamalapur Red Banana

BBC is also focusing on the tissue culture of Kamalapur Red Banana, with the objective of producing disease-free and high-quality planting material. This initiative aims to support the expansion of cultivation in the Kalaburagi region while providing farmers with access to a premium, regionally rooted crop.

🦠 Customised Biofertilizers from Local Soil

Another important initiative involves the development of customised biofertilizers using beneficial microorganisms identified from local soil samples of Kalyana Karnataka. The initiative aims to develop region-specific biofertilizer solutions for farmers and FPOs, helping reduce cultivation costs while improving soil health and agricultural productivity.

Strengthening Science-to-Farm Innovation

Together, these initiatives reflect BBC’s commitment to taking biotechnology from the laboratory to the farm and creating solutions that address local agricultural needs. By combining scientific research, biotechnology, and regional resources, BBC aims to contribute to sustainable agriculture and improved economic opportunities for farming communities across Kalyana Karnataka.

BBC sincerely thanks Hon’ble Minister Shri Priyank Kharge for his valuable time, encouragement, and support towards advancing biotechnology-led innovation for the region
