Kalyana Karnataka Bio-Economy Mission Presented at Kalaburagi

Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre (BBC) presented the Kalyana Karnataka Bio-Economy Mission at a high-level review meeting held at the DC Meeting Hall, Kalaburagi, chaired by Hon'ble Shri Priyank M. Kharge, Minister for Home Affairs, IT, Biotechnology and E-Governance, Government of Karnataka.

The Mission outlines a roadmap for building a strong regional bio-economy anchored around three of Kalyana Karnataka's defining crops — Tur (Red Gram), Red Banana and Sugarcane.

The proposed initiatives span the development of tissue culture and disease-free planting material, biofertilizers and bio-inputs using local soil microorganisms, value addition and processing, productive utilisation of agricultural by-products, technology transfer and market linkages.

Kalaburagi Pulse Mission

BBC also presented the Kalaburagi Pulse Mission, an integrated programme focused on strengthening the pulse value chain from farm to shelf. The initiative aims to promote local processing and value addition, strengthen the pulse ecosystem and improve income opportunities for farmers and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs).

The Mission seeks to connect scientific innovation with practical agricultural needs, enabling technologies developed through research and R&D to reach farmers as scalable and field-ready solutions.

Strengthening the Regional Bio-Economy

The Hon'ble Minister commended the initiatives and expressed keen interest in strengthening the agricultural bio-economy of Kalyana Karnataka.

BBC places on record its appreciation for the continued support extended to early-stage R&D in areas including value addition, tissue culture and biofertilizer technologies. Such support is helping bridge the gap between laboratory innovation and practical applications for farmers.

The meeting was attended by:

  • Hon'ble Shri Priyank M. Kharge, Minister for Home Affairs, IT, BT and E-Governance
  • Shri Ikram Shariff, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kalaburagi
