Role Overview
The Manager of Lab Management for MedTech at the Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre (BBC) is responsible for a sophisticated, cross-disciplinary infrastructure. This role oversees the integration of traditional engineering, cutting-edge digital labs, and medical diagnostic facilities. You will ensure operational excellence across Robotics, AR/VR, MedTech Prototyping, and Diagnostic Kit Development, providing a high-performance environment for startups, corporate partners, and students.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Engineering & Digital Lab Oversight:
Electronics & Robotics: Manage microelectronics, electrical testing, and robotics assembly. Oversee the operation of the Lathe and other mechanical prototyping tools.
Emerging Tech: Supervise the AR/VR Lab and the Drone Facility, including specialized sensors like LiDAR for mapping and medical delivery simulations.
AI & ML: Oversee high-end computation facilities for medical data processing and artificial intelligence applications.
MedTech & Diagnostic Facility Management:
Device Testing & IVD: Lead the MedTech Device Testing labs and In-Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) units. Provide technical support for the development and validation of diagnostic kits (e.g., COVID-19, Pregnancy kits, and other rapid tests).
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all diagnostics and device testing protocols align with CDSCO guidelines and ISO 13485 standards for medical devices and quality management systems.
Clean Room & Optics: Direct the operations of MedTech Clean Rooms and high-precision optics labs, ensuring adherence to ISO air quality standards and sterilization protocols.
Operational & Technical Administration:
Asset Lifecycle: Maintain rigorous lab notes and service records for all specialized equipment. Act as the primary coordinator for Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC) and equipment calibration.
Procurement: Manage the supply chain for chemicals, reagents, electronic components, and clean room consumables, ensuring the facility is always project-ready.
Commercialization: Drive revenue and facility utilization by commercializing equipment services and onboarding external industrial or academic users.
Training & Ecosystem Development:
Mentorship: Design and execute training programs for students and researchers on advanced tools like LiDAR, AR/VR, and IVD development.
Talent Pipeline: Manage the internship program and coordinate student placements within the MedTech and Startup ecosystem.
Startup Support: Provide troubleshooting and experimental design guidance to resident startups and corporate innovators.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education: Ph.D or Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronics, or a related multidisciplinary field.
Technical Breadth: Demonstrated experience managing diverse facilities, ranging from mechanical lathes and drones to clean rooms and diagnostic IVD labs.
Standards Knowledge: Strong understanding of ISO 13485 and CDSCO regulatory pathways for medical kits and devices.
Management: Strong background in vendor relations, inventory control, and laboratory documentation.
